Professional Development Day Indigenous Exercises

During our Professional Development Day on September 29, 2025, staff across our District engaged in meaningful learning experiences thoughtfully prepared by our Indigenous Education Department.

One highlight was the Blanket Exercise — an informative and deeply reflective experience that the Indigenous Education Council wished all staff to participate in. Guided by school leaders, the exercise offered powerful opportunities for reflection, dialogue, and connection.

Orange Shirt Day 2025: Abbotsford Student’s Art Speaks to Reconciliation

The Abbotsford School District is proud to announce that Cash Calhoun, a Abbotsford Senior Secondary student whose family roots connect to the Heiltsuk and Nisga’a Nations on his father’s side and the Nuu-Chah-Nulth Nation on his mother’s side, is the winner of the 2025 Orange Shirt Art Contest. His artwork has appeared on this year’s District orange shirts, serving as both a reflection of personal identity and a powerful statement of Indigenous resilience, healing, and truth.

Fête de la rentrée at Sandy Hill Elementary

For the second year in a row, Sandy Hill Elementary kicked off the school year with a lively Fête de la rentrée celebration. Inspired by SFU’s Back-to-School French Fete (French Fête de la rentrée)—an annual campus tradition hosted by the Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs (OFFA)—Mme Rodriguez introduced the celebration to Sandy Hill, and it has quickly become a highlight for the school community.

Tour de Valley – Cops for Cancer Stops at Fraser Middle

This morning, students at Fraser Middle School had the opportunity to cheer on the Tour de Valley – Cops for Cancer riders as they cycled through Abbotsford.

The annual ride brings together law enforcement officers from across the Fraser Valley to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research and support programs. At each school stop, riders inspire students with their dedication and commitment to making a difference for children and families affected by cancer.
