Chief Dan George Middle School Receives $12,000 MusiCounts Grant

September 25, 2024

The sound of music is louder than ever at Chief Dan George Middle School, where the band program recently received an incredible boost. MusiCounts selected the school's music department to receive a $12,000 grant, enabling them to purchase new instruments and repair older ones, ensuring every student can fully participate in the joy of making music.

“The MusiCounts grant is an amazing opportunity for our students to explore their musical talents,” said Jamie Beck, Principal of Chief Dan George Middle. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see how the Band program continues to bring our students together, fostering a sense of belonging and creativity. We are grateful for this support, which will undoubtedly positively impact our school community.”

On Friday, September 20th, the school's instrument supplier, King's Music in Abbotsford, delivered a variety of new instruments, marking the beginning of an exciting chapter for the concert bands spanning grades 6 to 8. This grant will enrich the music program, which has a long history of engaging students and building a vibrant community at Chief Dan George Middle.

“Chief Dan George has had a successful Band program since its start as a Middle School in 2001,” says Alyssa Hutchinson, Band/Music Teacher at Chief Dan George Middle. “With large numbers and diverse students, we celebrate and build community through our extra-curricular music programming that serves half of our school population. This generous grant from MusiCounts will give even more band students a quality music education.”

Congratulations to the Chief Dan George Middle School Band program for this fantastic achievement! With the support from MusiCounts and King's Music, the future is bright, and the music will continue to inspire and connect the students for years to come.
